Over 10,000 user names and passwords for Hotmail accounts leaked online which claimed that they were posted by anonymous users. Microsoft is now investigating claims over 10,000 hotmail accounts and passwords have been hacked posted online. Neowin.net claims that seen the lists of posted developer’s forum last weeks listed by thousands of account.
To those who have hotmail account you should change your details as soon as possible. Hacked email accounts have value lower in underground commerce that do banking logins.
Microsoft’s statement:
“Over the weekend Microsoft learned that several thousand Windows Live Hotmail customers’ credentials were exposed on a third-party site due to a phishing scheme. As always, upon learning of the issue, we immediately requested that the credentials be removed and launched an investigation to determine the impact to customers.
As part of that investigation, we determined that this was not a breach of internal Microsoft data and initiated our standard process of working to help customers regain control of their accounts.”
